Choosing The Right Metrics For User Experience
To be a UX designer, you need to know which metrics to track for the products you have created. This is important because if you aren’t following the right metrics, you will not know if your UX design was successful.
Tracking UX metrics will help you determine what part of the design works well, what needs to be changed because it’s not performing well, and more. If you don’t know anything about UX metrics and which ones you need to track, then we are here to help you make the best choice for your products.
What Are UX Metrics?
A user experience (UX) metric lets you measure and track the user experience of the product you have created. This is generally a website, application, or digital product. These metrics allow designers to determine what is performing well in their design and what needs to be changed. All the designers and UX design agencies need to do is wait for people to use the product and then look at all the data they receive and analyze it.
There are two different types of user experience metrics that you can track and collect:
Quantitative metrics
These UX metrics track how the users interact with your product. It involves collecting quantitative data on how long they use the product, the retention rate, what they accomplish when using it, how often they return, and more.
Qualitative Metrics
These metrics focus on how the user feels when they are interacting with your product. Qualitative metrics get feedback from the user about their experience, what they liked, and what they didn’t.
Knowing the different types of UX metrics that can be used is essential. If you haven’t used metrics to track the user experience before, you should start using them to find out how users interact with your product and how they feel when doing it.
UX Metrics You Need To Choose
Customer Satisfaction Metrics
If you want to know if users enjoy their experience when using your product, then you need to track customer satisfaction score. If a user is unsatisfied, they will not want to use the product again. It would help if you stopped this from happening. Look at this metric, find out what people like and dislike, and quickly improve.
It would help if you asked the target users what they like about the products and what they want to be changed. Talking to the active users will let them know you want to make their UX better. Take your time and make changes that people will enjoy.
You can use different methods of collecting this data, like giving users a survey they can fill out or interviewing them. You need to understand your users and what type of method they will want to engage with to help you.
If you use a scale where the user picks a number to communicate how satisfied or unsatisfied they are, you give them an area where they can write why they feel that way. This is important as it will provide you with the specific information you can use.
Usability Metrics
Your product needs to be usable for the target users. You need to keep tracking this UX metric and analyze how it changes over time with changes to the product’s design. If users find it challenging to use the product, they won’t want to keep using it.
Ask the users how easy it is to use the product or how hard it is. You can give them a survey and ask them to pick a number on a scale and then tell you why they chose that number. You need to use this information to make changes that will give users a better user experience.
Task Success Rate Metrics
Tasks are what the user wants to do when using your product. You need to make sure the users have an easy time accomplishing what they want to when interacting with your product. Tracking this metric will let you know how often user tasks are completed, how many errors users make when trying to complete a task, how long they spend on doing them, and how easy it is for them to accomplish what they want.
Tracking and collecting this information will help you find out what needs to be changed to make the user experience better for everyone.
How Users Describe Your Product
Knowing how people would describe your product to others is an important metric you should track. This metric will let you know if people like using your product or not, whether they would recommend it to someone else, and more.
The words they use to describe the product will give you enough information to make the right improvements to change the user’s description of your product. You should find out why they feel that way and what they think can be done to improve the UX design of the product.
Then all you need to do is make those changes and track UX metrics again to check if there are any changes. It would help if you kept tracking key metrics to find out what people like about your product and how they use it.
